Maria Del Carmen Garza

Maria Del Carmen Garza, beloved wife, mother, grandmother went to be with the Lord and reunited with her son on Monday, February 16, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a woman of great faith and loved her family unconditionally. Her love for her grandchildren was evident in everything she did, they were her greatest pride and joy. Her contagious smile and kindness always had a way of making people feel loved whenever they saw or spoke to her. She always welcomed everyone into her home. You could be sure she always had food, offer you a glass of tea or her favorite a cup of coffee. She enjoyed sitting on her porch, keeping up with all her plants, doing crossword puzzles and most importantly praying. Her memory will live on in all who knew her. To know her was to love her. Preceding her in death was her son, Carlos "Carlitos" Garza III; and parents, Carolina and Ricardo M. Guzman; Family members left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 45 years, Carlos T. Garza, Jr. of Del Rio; daughters, Laura Garza (Eric Laskowski) of Poth, TX, and Cecilia "Ceci" Opperman and husband Chris Opperman of La Vernia, TX; grandchildren: Alyssa Joy Opperman, Christopher Evan Opperman and Charles Lucas Opperman; mother/father-in-law: Socorro Garza and Carlos M. Garza Sr. of Del Rio; siblings: Ricardo Guzman (Adelfa Guzman), Maria Elena Salazar (Jesse Salazar), Felipe Guzman (Edna Guzman), Cecilia Garcia and late husband Jose "Joe" Garcia, and Carolina Almaguer (Benito Almaguer); sister-in-law: Sylvia Garza of Lytle, TX; Maria Del Carmen is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, other close relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Trinity Chapel of Faith. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will follow at San Felipe Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jerry Salazar, Ricky Guzman, Mario Garcia, Bobby Garcia, Benny Almaguer, and JR Alaniz. The Garza Family would like to thank the staff and VVRMC, Main Methodist Hospital, the Start Center for all their care and support.
