Juan José Martinez

Juan José Martinez, age 80, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 3, 2026 while surrounded by his loving family, here in Del Rio. He was born on December 8, 1945 in San Luis, Potosi, Mexico. For more than two decades, Juan José Martinez managed the arcade at Plaza del Sol Mall through its various owners and name changes. During the height of the arcade era in the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s, he became a familiar face to generations of Del Rio families. For many, a trip to the mall wasn't complete without stopping by the arcade, where Juan was always there to welcome visitors and keep the games running. Juan was also well known for his homemade green juice. If you were willing to listen to the ingredients, or better yet, try a glass, he was always happy to share it. He truly believed it could help heal almost any ailment and enjoyed talking with others about its benefits. As a father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Juan leaves behind memories of the stories he loved to tell, the life lessons he shared, and the conversations that reflected his experiences and perspective. His family will carry those memories with them always. Preceding him in death was his beloved wife of 45 years, Linda Martinez, and his beloved wife of 5 years, Cecilia Guerrero; son, José Felipe Martinez; granddaughter, Kayla Alexandra Martinez Watkins; also preceding him in death were his four brothers and one sister; Surviving family members include his children: Veronica Sotelo of Dallas, TX, Luis Martinez of Bastrop, TX, Gabriela Santos and husband Jaime Santos of Del Rio, and Karla Martinez of Washington, DC; daughter-in-law, Lisa Martinez of Del Rio; grandchildren: Bryan Alexander Santos, Angel Josue Santos, Aaron Isai Santos (Jazmin Ivette Santos), Gabriel Ivan Santos, Pablo Andres Sotelo, Esteban Caleb Sotelo, Sister Maria Pia (Anica Paola Sotelo), Sebastian Nicolas Sotelo, Gabriel Isaac Sotelo, Marco Antonio Martinez, and Nataniel Martinez; great grandchildren: Stellamaris Santos, Xitlali Santos, Celeste Santos, Solei Santos, Santino Isai Santos, Idalia Martinez, Sofia Sotelo, Judah Leo Sotelo, Luka Valentino Santos, Zara Rose Santos, Noah Santos, and Eliza Kate Watkins; Juan José is also survived by many other close relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Trinity Chapel of Devotion. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
