Joan Elizabeth Denman

Joan Elizabeth Denman, born October 10, 1936, in Gonzales, Texas. She passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and creativity. She was the beloved daughter of Earl Flowers and Lenora Lepori. Joan, lovingly known as "Mema" by her grandchildren, is survived by her loving daughter Anita Perry, son Craig Perry, cherished granddaughter Amber O’Briant and her husband Daniel O’Briant, grandson Eric Holub and his wife Kimmy Holub, and her precious great-grandchildren Decker, James, Allison, Audrey, and Hailey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Denman, her beloved daughter Cecile Perry, and her sister Faye Flowers Jones. A dedicated and hardworking woman, who pursed a higher education and graduated from St. Edward’s University. She worked for CRC in Houston for many years and then for Nalco where she retired from in her 60’s. While she called Houston home for much of her life, she also lived in Brackettville, Alief, Eagle Pass, San Antonio and Katy. Each place adding to her rich experiences and cherished memories. Joan was a woman of many talents. An incredible seamstress, she designed and created beautiful clothing for herself, her children, and her grandchildren. Her creativity extended into many areas—she was a skilled wood carver, a passionate oil painter, and a talented baker and hostess. She had a keen eye for fashion and was always elegantly dressed, carrying herself with grace and poise. Her love for music was evident in her beautiful singing voice, and in her younger years, she played the French horn. A lifelong learner, she was an avid reader and collector of books and magazines, and she had a deep appreciation for western movies, literature, and jewelry. Joan also had a deep love for food. She delighted in a good meal, especially enchiladas, great barbecue, fresh seafood, and any kind of sweet treat. Whether she was cooking for loved ones or enjoying a delicious dish, she found joy in the experience of food and the way it brought people together. A woman of great determination, Joan poured her heart into everything she did, whether it was her professional work, tending to her beloved garden, or caring for her family. She found joy in roses, butterflies, and all things beautiful. But above all, her family was her greatest treasure. She gave her unconditional love to her children and grandchildren, never missing a birthday or holiday—always sending the most thoughtful cards. She was a wonderful listener, offering wisdom and honest advice, and her hearty, sincere laugh could brighten any room. Joan’s life was one of strength, generosity, and devotion. She touched the hearts of many, and her love will continue to live on in the memories of those who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on Thursday, April 10th at 11:30 AM at Hopkinsville Masonic Cemetery in Waelder, Texas where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved father and mother.
