CPL Rogelio V. Vasquez, VET. USMC

Rogelio Vasquez died peacefully in the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, TX on March 11, 2023 with his wife, sister Margarita, and brother-in-law Cruz by his bedside. He was born April 14, 1955. The family and community lost a great husband, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Rogelio enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corp (USMC) from 1974 to 1977. After his honorable discharge from the USMC, Rogelio worked for the Federal Government in the Laughlin AFB Civil Engineering Squadron and the Operations Support Squadron for 25 years, retiring in 2008. During his tenure at Laughlin AFB, Rogelio received various recognition awards for professional performance. After retirement, he enjoyed buying and renovating homes and helping others do the same. Rogelio was a member of the American Legion, the Society of St Vincent de Paul, the St Jude Partners in Hope, and the Shriners Hospital Love to the Rescue Donor Support. Rogelio was married to Juanita Jimenez Vasquez for 44 years. He loved his wife dearly and that love grew to include his step-children Tess Verdusco and Bruno Lozano. Rogelio came into his step-children’s lives when they were pre-school and toddler age, respectively. Rogelio and the children quickly formed an unbreakable bond. Rogelio was always there for them to offer his love, support, and encouragement. He was very active in all aspects of their lives. Tess and Bruno proudly called him dad. Rogelio also doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They all loved him greatly and will truly miss their grandpa. Rogelio was a very warm and compassionate person. He loved and was always ready to help those in need. He also loved meeting with friends for breakfast or lunch. He cherished the times he spent with his sisters whom he dearly loved. Rogelio was a hero to us all. He truly touched and positively changed many lives and will forever live in our hearts. Rogelio was preceded in death by his parents, Anselmo and Olivia Vasquez, brother, Anselmo Vasquez, Jr., sister, Elva Alicia Rivera, and nephew, Anselmo Vasquez, III. Rogelio is survived by his wife Juanita, his daughter Tess Verdusco, son Bruno (Cecilia) Lozano; grandchildren, Jacob (Dulce) Lozano, Ben Guevara, Keaton Lozano, Lizette (Liz) Koog, Michelle (Greg) Stephens, Vanessa Sanchez, DeAngel Casarez, Marco Casarez, Justin Casarez, Cristian (Sabrina) Casarez, Victor Casarez, and Gabriel Casarez; great-grandchildren, Bonnie Lozano, Athena Lozano, Mya Lozano, Aaliyah Guevara, Adaliah Casarez, Emma Casarez, Riley Wilburn, Jayden Yanez, Jasiah Casarez, Delilah Casarez, Asher Stephens, Elijah Stephens; brother, Ruben Vasquez; sisters, Yolanda (Doroteo) Lozano, Olga (Isidoro) Ramos, and Margarita (Cruz) Hernandez. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Trinity Mortuary Chapel of Faith. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the United States Marine Corp and the American Legion Honor Guard Post #595. Gentlemen with the honor of pallbearers are Doroteo Lozano, Jr., Isidoro Ramos, Jose Cruz Hernandez, Genaro Jimenez III, Jose Luis Jimenez and Valdemar Jimenez.
