Birdie Lou Swann, USN

Birdie Lou Swann, 73, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025. Born in Oldtown, Maryland, in 1952, Birdie spent most of her life in Del Rio, Texas, where she built a warm and welcoming home for her family and friends. Birdie proudly served her country in the United States Navy before continuing a life of service through her work in Human Resources for the Department of Veterans Affairs, United States Border Patrol and finally at the Office of Personnel Management where she finally retired. Known for her deep compassion, she often guided friends and colleagues through the challenges of retirement paperwork, always saying, “One less stress on them means one more smile in the world.” She is survived by her children, David Elrod and Rene Rodriguez; grandchildren, Samantha Elrod, Joseph Hansell, and Mikaylah Rodriguez who brought immeasurable joy to her life. her siblings Tomla Walton (William Walton), Thomas Twigg (Beverly Twigg), and Damaris Issette; and her beloved She is preceded in death by the two loves of her life Don and Scott and parents, Dorothy and Thomas Twigg, and her brothers, Duncan and Mark Twigg. Birdie’s smile could light up a room, and her heart had room for everyone. Many lovingly knew her as “Momma Birdie” for the way she cared for her children’s friends as if they were her own. She found peace each morning by opening her Bible to a random verse, letting faith guide her day. Her hobbies included puzzles, old Westerns, and Judge Judy marathons, but her greatest happiness came from listening to her grandchildren’s stories and cheering on their adventures. Birdie’s legacy is one of kindness, service, faith, and steady love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 12 noon to 1:40 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. A chapel service will begin at 1:45 p.m. in the Trinity Chapel of Faith. Officiating will be Pastor Wayne T. Richardson. Entombment will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
