Richard Samuel Murrah

October 12, 2017

Richard Samuel (Sam) Murrah, age 86 went from his earthly Home in San Antonio to his Heavenly Home on Thursday, October 12, 2017. Sam was born in Del Rio, TX on January 27, 1931 to Dan and Gertrude Murrah. Sam grew up on his parents ranch in Pandale, Tx., north west of Del Rio. He loved the ranch life and all the chores that came with it, but also found time to study as he commuted to Del Rio High School where he graduated third in his class in 1949. After high school, Sam enrolled in Texas A&M. Sam graduated from Texas A&M in 1953 with a degree in range and forestry. Upon graduation, Sam enlisted in the US Army and after basic training was stationed in Germany for his tour of duty. After his discharge Sam helped his father on the ranch until he was employed with the Department of Agriculture as a Soil Conservation Manager where he spent several years working in and around the Kerrville area covering west Texas. Sam left the Department of Agriculture to run a Shell Service Station in Dripping Springs. After two years, he sold his interest in the station to go into Real Estate. Sam started out as a Real Estate agent working for several companies but upon getting his brokerage license, he acquired a Century 21 franchise. Two years later, he sold the franchise to start his own business as a Broker and found his calling. After several years on his own selling Houses, Businesses and Property, he partnered with Bill Wiseman to broker ranches. Sam and Bill worked together for several years and even when Sam was diagnosed with terminal cancer, his mind never wavered from Real Estate. Even while in a Nursing Home under the care of Hospice, he and Bill closed a deal resulting in commissions for both of them. Sam was a past member of the San Antonio Board of Realtors and the South Texas Cattle Raisers Association. He was a staunch Texas A&M Alum that never missed a football game. He was a man of Faith and a long time member of the Helotes, Texas Methodist Church. Sam was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Mary Robin Richardson, and her husband Bobby; two nephews: Rick Richardson and his wife Lisa and Thad Richardson. Sam will be missed by family and friends, but the Lord had some streets paved with gold that He couldn’t sell and He called Sam to broker the deal for Him.
