Clayton A. Hunter

April 29, 1939 - September 25, 2017

Clayton Allen Hunter, age 78, passed away on the evening of Monday, September 25, 2017 here in Del Rio. He was born on April 29, 1939 in Buckeye, Arizona to Ralph E. Hunter and Dorothy McKee Hunter. Clay grew up in a loving home in Buckeye, Arizona surrounded by a large extended family. He learned many trades from his entrepreneurial parents and grandparents including the electrical contracting profession which served him well in his railroad career. Clay loved life and was always in a good mood. He was friendly to everyone he knew and, truly, never met a stranger. Clay was an avid reader and storyteller, especially all things historic and military related. He enjoyed traveling to new places with Brenda and especially to his hometown of Buckeye. He treasured his daily breakfast gatherings and afternoons with his many dear friends and fellow retirees. Clay was especially proud of "his girls" and granddaughter Audra, A1C, USAF. Clay was a proud United States Marine and graduate of Arizona State University. He retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad after a 30 year career. He and his wife Brenda R. Hunter were Co-owners and operators of Hunter Real Estate. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Brenda Barclay Hunter; daughters, Michaelanna Hunter of Del Rio, and Melinda E. Griffin and husband Nicholas A. Griffin, of College Station, TX; granddaughter, Audra N. Patton, of Wright-Patterson AFB, OH; brothers, Edward R. Hunter and wife Jacque Hunter, and George R. Hunter and wife Lucinda Hunter; sister, Vicki L. Schulz, all of Buckeye, AZ; sister-in-law, Judith Durbin and husband Don Durbin; brother-in-law, Paul B. Barclay and wife Paula Barclay; nieces: Shelley Hadley, Lorraine Erickson, Melanie Kreikemeier, Kim Melton, Stacey Lopez, Elizabeth Hudson and Jenni Barclay; nephews: Bobby Hunter, Paul Hunter, Robert Ashmore, Greg Barclay, Marvin Northroup Jr., Steve Northroup, and Brandon Northroup; Clayton is also survived by many cousins, other extended family members, and many lifelong friends.
