Maria "Mary" G. Velasquez

Maria "Mary" G. Velasquez, age 77, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 while surrounded by her loving family here in Del Rio. She was born on April 24, 1947 in San Vicente, Coahuila, Mexico. From the day she was born, our mother was an angel to everyone who met her. She would help anybody in need, regardless of who or where they came from, and would never expect anything in return. She was an angel to everyone. She would always put others before herself, and was selfless in all her acts of kindness. She was an angel her whole life, and perhaps that's why God decided to take her. Heaven needed another angel. Nuestra madre fue una mujer con un corazón de oro que siempre ayudo desinteresadamente a quien lo necesitaba. Siempre tenia una mirada de ternura para todos, especialmente sus nietos que tanto adoro. Fue muy talentosa, no solo en los quehaceres Del hogar, costuras jardinería, carpintería, albanieria y muchos mas. Fue una verdadera guerrera en la vida que siempre lucho con todo su ser contra todas las adversidades de la vida, para sacar a su familia adelante. Nunca se sabia rajar! Mami fue el mejor ejemplo de una verdadera mujer, madre, y hija De Dios! Y ojalá que Dios me conceda ser la mitad de la mujer que ella fue en esta vida. Our sweet mom lived a life of love and sacrifice. She always managed to smile no matter the adversities she'd be going through in her life. She loved gardening and it showed. Her house was filled with plants. She worked at various stores in downtown Del Rio, (Neisners, JaVee, La Mode, La Cabana, a International, and also Wal-Mart) Mom loved her children, and grandchildren unconditionally, to whom she referred to them all as "Mi Tesoro" She will forever be missed by many. Hasta pronto Mami. Preceding her in death were her parents, Agustina and Antonio Gonzalez; siblings: Antonio Gonzalez, Adrian Oviedo, Maria de Jesus Oviedo, Jose Maria Gonzalez, Fidencio Gonzalez, Maria del Refugio Gonzalez, and Martin Gonzalez; and son-law, Christopher Martinez; Family members left to cherish her memory include her husband of 56 years, Armando Velasquez of Del Rio; children: Patricia V. Delarosa and husband Jesse Delarosa of Del Rio, Armando Velasquez Jr. and wife Blanca Velasquez of Del Rio, and Nora L. Martinez of Del Rio; siblings: Juanita Gonzalez, Esperanza Gonzalez, Domingo Gonzalez, Jose Gonzalez, Olga Serrano, and Rosa Gonzalez; grandchildren: Gina, Jose "Joey", Brianna, Armando III, Jessica, Blanca, Camila, Pedro, Gabino, Manuel, and Carlos; great grandchildren: Angel, Natalie, Mila Grace, Agustin, and Kai; Maria is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Trinity Chapel of Faith. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 9:30 am at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jose Delarosa, Armando Velasquez Jr., Armando Velasquez III, Pedro Martinez, Gabino Martinez, and Manuel Martinez.
