John James "J.J." Foster

John James (J.J.) Foster, 80, of Del Rio,Tx. passed away on April 8, 2025 at Val Verde Regional Medical Center. Born on October 21, 1944 in Del Rio, Tx. J.J. was the son of George Philemon and Cordie Lewis Foster. He grew up in Del Rio Texas and graduated from Del Rio High School in 1963. After graduation he went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 5 years. Then he went into business with his father Phil Foster and they ran Foster’s Exxon till the early 1980’s. After that J.J. Started a catering service with his wife Janice Foster for over 30 years. J.J. was known all over Del Rio for the best brisket in town. He enjoyed playing golf and searching for arrow heads in his spare time. He loved his friends and family, and spent many afternoons making phone calls just to check on them, talk about the weather, and chat about whatever sports team happened to be playing that day. His nicknames for those he treasured most were sure to put a smile on your face. He could fill a room with his presence and warm your heart with a hug. His larger than life personality will forever be remembered by those that knew him best. He was preceded in death by his parents Phil and Cordie Foster, his sister Phyllis Taylor, sister Debbie Stidham, brother in law Burt Stidham, and brother in law James Wardle. J.J. is survived by his wife Janice Hill Foster of 60 years. One daughter Jeanie Rohde and husband Kenneth of Del Rio,Texas. Grandchildren, Ashlie Nebel and husband Scott of Del Rio, Texas, Reagan Rohde and wife Cortney of Sanderson, Texas, and Radney Rohde and wife Crystal of Del Rio, Texas. Great grandchildren, Alison Nebel, Kenna Nebel, Reed Nebel, Branch Rohde, and Levi Rohde. Sister Carolyn Wardle, sister Ernestine Ricks and husband Joe, brother in law Morris Taylor, sister in law Melody Crawford and husband Carl, brother in law Rocky Hill and wife Patsy, brother in law Sandy Hill and wife Carolyn, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church 2101 N. Main St. in Del Rio,Tx. J.J. will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace.
