Gerardo "Jerry" Leyva, Sr.

It is with great sadness that the family of Gerardo "Jerry" E. Leyva Sr. announces his passing after a difficult battle with ALL (leukemia) Cancer on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the age of 54. "Jerry" will be cherished by his wife, Griselda Sorola-Leyva, in heaven with him. At the same time, his memory is treasured by his mother, Maria De La Luz Ezpinosa-Leyva; Father, Pedro Leyva Sr. (deceased); Brothers and Sisters, Luis Leyva, Pedro Leyva Jr. Lucy Newell, Magdalena Leyva (deceased); Sister (In-Law) Blanca "Yadira" Sorola-Lugo and Evelio Lugo. Children, Priscilla and Mario Herrera, Gerardo Jr. Leyva and Cassy Trevino, David and Iesha Leyva, Jerreca Leyva, Joshua Orion Sorola, and Adrian Gerardo Sorola, along with seven grandchildren who know him as "Santa Grandpa" (because of the well-known beard he grew) or Grandpa with the BOOM! Music in his truck. He worked as a warehouse manager for over 15 years at Pepsi Company for years in hazardous heat and cold but did so with no complaints, knowing he had a family to support. His friends were always ready to taste his well-known cook-out food and sit back and relax with a cold drink to be in the moment together. He was part of a car club called Disturbin' the Streets, where he could share the love of both bass and cars through the sound reverberating off of the stylish trucks and lowriders displaying the lights of the beat of the music being played. He collected and was obsessed with O'Lights! Whether it be a form of flashlight mini, flashlight hand-held, or lamp for the bedside, it had to be an "O-light" along with his "American-made Knife collection" sporting an American eagle to faction along the trim, knowing when handling them, they would be in pristine condition. He loved those knives so much, haha he never used them for their purpose of cutting. His guns were a thing to marvel at with his fascination with having the new scope to add as an attachment. As loved and protected as all those items were, his love for his kids outweighed it all because all six of his kids were the reason he kept fighting as long as he did. He strived to fight to live longer so he could be a part of the future we all had in store, but in the end, he knew his fight was short-lived. Short-lived but lived in a mindset of gratefulness, knowing the ones who truly mattered were with him in the very end to be with him through it all. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12 noon to 1:45 p.m. in the Trinity Chapel of Faith. A Chapel Service is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at San Felipe Cemetery.
