Dr. Jonathan Anthony Hoskins, M.D.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dr. Jonathan Anthony Hoskins, lovingly known to family and friends as “Tony.” Dr. Jonathan Anthony “Tony” Hoskins was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. He grew up surrounded by a close-knit family whose love, encouragement, and unwavering support helped shape the remarkable man he became. Dr. Hoskins shared especially meaningful relationships with his grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, and extended family, all of whom meant the world to him. He shared an especially close bond with his mother, made even more special by the beautiful fact that they shared the very same birthday, a connection they treasured deeply and celebrated throughout his life. Dr. Hoskins was a devoted son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, mentor, physician, and friend who deeply valued family and relationships. He maintained loving connections with family and friends, always making time to stay connected, share stories, and uplift those around him. He also had a deep passion for researching family history and preserving the stories and connections that kept generations close together. Dr. Hoskins’ life was marked by extraordinary achievement, perseverance, faith, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. He attended Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences before completing his undergraduate studies at Tennessee State University. He later earned his medical degree from the prestigious Meharry Medical College after years of determination, sacrifice, prayer, and perseverance. He completed his General Surgery internship at the University of Southern California, followed by his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at One Brooklyn Health. He later completed an elite Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and Georgetown University Medical Center. Through hard work and dedication, Dr. Hoskins fulfilled the dream he carried from childhood, becoming a physician committed to healing and helping others. His distinguished career included serving as a team physician fellow for the Baltimore Ravens, contributing medical expertise at the NFL Combine, and caring for Division I athletes through Georgetown University Athletics. He also dedicated time to supporting Maryland high school football programs, helping ensure the safety and care of young athletes within the community. Dr. Hoskins’ professional affiliations extended across healthcare systems in New York, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Texas, where he earned the admiration and respect of colleagues, patients, and community members alike. He proudly served as an Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in orthopedic and sports medicine care, including the treatment of sports injuries, fractures, joint pain, and rehabilitation services at Val Verde Regional Medical Center. Outside of medicine, Dr. Hoskins lived life with joy, authenticity, and purpose. He loved music, Chicago-style stepping, traveling, and skating. Skating, in particular, brought him a sense of joy, calm, and peace, and those who knew him best remember the happiness and light he carried whenever he stepped onto the skating floor. Friends, classmates, colleagues, and loved ones remember him as a kind, compassionate, and uplifting person whose warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Whether encouraging classmates through difficult moments, supporting community initiatives, mentoring others, or caring for animals with tenderness and compassion, he embodied kindness in every area of his life. While attending Tennessee State University, Dr. Hoskins founded the Generation of Educated Men (G.E.M.) organization to encourage leadership and excellence among students. He was also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., initiated into the Alpha Theta Chapter in Spring 2002, where he formed lifelong bonds rooted in brotherhood, scholarship, and service. Dr. Jonathan A. Hoskins’ legacy is one of excellence, compassion, faith, resilience, and love. He touched countless lives through medicine, mentorship, friendship, and service. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his impact will continue to live on in every life he healed, every person he encouraged, and every heart he touched. He will forever be remembered as an exceptional physician, compassionate caregiver, trusted mentor, devoted son and family member, loyal friend, and community builder. Funeral and memorial services will be held in Chicago on June 19, 2026.
